About Magic AL RICH

Al Rich remembers the first magic show he watched. It was his uncle who performed magic at the family parties. He offered to teach Al magic. And that was the start of Magic Al’s destiny. By the time Al was 15 years old he had become a professional magician. People were paying him to do what he loved. A dream come true!

He focused on performing at parties and schools. He also worked at a magic store in the San Fernando Valley, Magic World. He had all the secrets at his fingertips. Not to mention the ability to buy magic at wholesale prices.

Al was always working on his sleight of hand magic. He wasn’t too focused on school and wasn’t getting the best grades. Al’s father was a little worried about the intelligence level of his son. But when he tried reading Al’s magic books and didn’t understand them, he was no longer concerned.

One of Al’s earliest performances was for a huge group at the Army and Navy academy in Carlsbad, CA. Performing at the high school graduation. He remembers one of his jokes that got a huge laugh. Al said that “One of the commanding officers was so nice to invite me here tonight. He sent me a wonderful letter to attend the graduation and even signed it with Hugs and Kisses. It said XO right by his name.”

Al Rich performed for the first time at the Magic Castle in Hollywood at fifteen years old and was very nervous. So was the mouse he produced. It jumped from his hand onto his shirt. That got the biggest laugh of his show. At nineteen, now more seasoned, and no mouse to steal all the laughter, he officially became a member of the Magic Castle. He then became a performing member and lectured for the magician members. Since then, he has performed hundreds of shows at the Castle.

At about 20 years old he became a full-time professional. Performing for both children and adults. He loved both audiences. He could be silly with the children, and he could have jokes for the adults that went further than making “mistakes” and getting things “wrong.”

Now, over 30 years later he still loves his career. Having people feel alive, raise their energy, have the childlike experience of wonder, and giving the gift of laughter. That is a very successful career.
